“Paris - Le Pont Marie” (looking into Rue des deux ponts)
Drawing by painter Piet van Wijngaerdt created 1901-1902 when, according to Adriaan Venema’s book “Nederlandse Schilders in Paris 1900-1940” the artist stayed in Paris. Contemporary of George Breitner (1857-1923) who 15 years before also lived and worked in Paris.
Below: Pont Marie by French artists Raymond Renefer (1879-1957) and Armand Guillaumin (1841-1927).
Both in the PW’s drawing and in Renefer’s, a woman with a bag of laundry, to or from one of the “Bateaux Lavoirs” can be seen. And: no automobiles only drawn by horse or man carriages.
