Parrots & woodblock 

Parrots were, like flower bouquets and landscape a popular theme for the first and second generation of printmakers. Fascinated by the possibilities of a simple outline combined with exotic and primary colours many printmakers choose parrots (Macaws) as a subject. Generally the public loved them: a commercial succes !

Although the main collection is focused around the “general” creative output of German women printmakers parrots in woodblock prints are just too irresistible to ignore. Several women printmakers embraced them enthusiastically.
